AMA's COVID-19 RESPONSE

If ever Mexico needed us, it's now. This week we got the news we were dreading: the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is beginning to spread in our Ama headquarters city of Zapopan in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Within a matter of hours, six families involved with the Connection Center had lost their jobs. The situation there will get much worse before it gets better. If they can't work, they don't eat.

We are feeding giving emergency food kits to 100 families per week. Will you help us?

Immediate Response: Food Bank

We are currently collecting funds to build a food bank in Zapopan. We will then be distributing the pantry items to families who have little or no food due to unemployment during the COVID-19 crisis. Each household will receive rice, beans, oil, flour, sugar, and either an egg or soy/lentil protein, depending on what is available.

Inevitable Need: Medical Support

Our medical team, consisting of doctors, healthcare workers, and other volunteers, is preparing to serve the sick as the virus spreads. We are making and purchasing personal protection items as well as acquiring medications recommended by our doctors to start a pharmacy.

Recovery

This global pandemic will eventually end, and when it does, we want to be there to aid in recovery. We are looking for volunteers NOW to research relief organizations and request their assistance in getting much-needed resources to those in Zapopan who need it most. We also need researchers and grant writers to aid in applying for grants as we prepare to help. Sign up to volunteer here:
