Projects

Website Projects

Below I've listed one of the types of projests I've done most prolifically: building websites! Ever since I took my first web design courses in high school and college I've been tinkering with creating websites for a variety of different purposes. The ones I've chosen to list here are what I consider to be important steps in me developing my design language and skills and I anticipate putting many more here in the future (Including the one you're on right now!)

VISIT (EXTERNAL)

This website was designed from the ground up for a psychology practice run by my mom and her teammates. The one-page design is intended to be simple and chronological to carry prospective patients through the process of making and preparing for an appointment. It is still in use and recieving regular updates and changes from me.

CHECK IT OUT

As part of my college capstone project, I and a group of teammates were assigned to assist a nonprofit called Ama Without Borders with all of their current IT needs. The needs that I took the lead on were setting up their G-Suite and domained emails as well as creating a new website. It was in active use for a couple of years but isn't anymore.

CHECK IT OUT

Throughout my junior and senior years of college I worked as an intern at Global Battery Solutions. I had many responsibilities there but one that I took on for fun was mocking up a new website. This website never made it to primetime but GBS did use some aspects of it in their actual new site, and it layed the foundation for several design techniques I use today.

VISIT (EXTERNAL)

This current iteration of the AWM website was not built entirely by me but I did assist with it's design and construction. It also contains much of the content that I created and wrote in previous iterations of the site. This one is currently still live.

CHECK IT OUT

Shortly after my first iteration of the AWM site went live I began working on this one, v2. Intended to be simpler and more visually appealing, this version of the site was intended to mimic the easy navigability of the Advanced Counceling and Therapy Services site while offering significaltly more content. This one was retired in 2020 in favor of the current site.

CHECK IT OUT

As my first attempt to build this site, I used the help of templates which assisted with the visual appeal of the banner and animations. This version of the site was live for several years but suffered from issues once more than 4 members joined the practice. Eventually I decided against the templates and rebuilt it from the ground up.

CHECK IT OUT

As my final project for my first ever web design class, this site was never intended to see actual users. However, in the summer of 2017 the web hosting company managing AWM's then-current site had a fatal meltdown, losing the existing site in the process. Out of desparation, we launched this version of the site to surprisingly positive feedback. It remained live for a couple of years.

Server Project

Contrary to what people now often mean when they say server (VMs, Cloud hosting, etc.) when I refer to my server, I mean a good old-fashioned bare-metal server. The machine that I use for a server is an old repurposed Acer tower that my friend Josh used for a project when we were in high school together. His project involved using it to host gaming servers for the game Minecraft and operate as a small business, an option many of us used as an alternative to a traditional capstone project. When we graduated he gave the server to me and its been running nearly continuously ever since, hosting my own Minecraft server for my friends and family as well as now my website! I've replaced parts, reinstalled the operating system and essentially used it to teach myself Linux, so the poor thing has had practically zero downtime since 2016.

If you're curious what the Minecraft server part entails, head over here. I've even got a live map that allows you to see players on the server in real time:
